Travelling To and From

General

Whatever your marital status the normal method of travel from the UK to Germany is by air trooping from Birmingham to one of the North German airfields, however as an Isolated Detachment (ISODET) situated in the extreme south, special arrangements apply.


Travel By Air

Your movements clerk should book a civilian flight from the appropriate U airport to either Friedrichshafen (approx 1 and 1/2 hrs from Bad Hindelang), Memmingen (approx 45 mins from Bad Hindelang) or Munich airport (approx 2 hrs from Bad Hindelang) plus car hire as necessary. This should be charged against your Unit UIN against 'Assignment'.


Travel By Car

Travel from Calais will take approximately 10 hours, you should be conversant with European driving regulations and speed limits before departure. It is recommended thaht you sit the European Matrix test before leaving your Unit. In addition you should be aware that adverse weather can severly affect local driving conditions. During the winer months it is law to have winter tyres on (Nov - Apr).


Motor Mileage Allowance (MMA)

May be claimed from normal point of arrival (Airfield to Bad Hindelang). Authority for Privately Arranged Passage (PAP) may be arranged. This must be authorised from your parent Unit in accordance with JSP 752 Chap 4 Section 10. Further clarification of all travel arrangements can be obtained from Mrs Grey in the Fleet Relocation Office at cxprelocate@a.dii.mod.uk. It must be stressed that you are responsible for organising personal and family travel arrangements.
